Upon your arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, situated just 30 km north of Colombo in Katunayake, you will be warmly welcomed by our friendly representative. From the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in the coastal town of Negombo. This day is all about unwinding after your journey. You can relax at the hotel or explore Negombo’s charming attractions. Visit Morawala Beach, a serene spot perfect for a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, and experience the vibrant Negombo Fish Market, where you can observe the daily catch being sold and witness local fishermen at work. Additionally, explore the historic Dutch Fort, a colonial remnant that offers a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s rich history.
Start your day early with a spiritual visit to Abayasekararama Temple, a peaceful Buddhist temple, and then head over to St. Sebastian’s Church, a striking Gothic-style Catholic church. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive to the heart of the island, Kandy, known as the cultural capital of Sri Lanka. In Kandy, you’ll visit the lush Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, home to a wide variety of tropical plants and orchids. Later, enjoy a Kandy city tour, where you can explore local markets, visit handicraft shops, and immerse yourself in the culture of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After breakfast, you’ll visit one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred sites, the Temple of the Tooth Relic, which houses a tooth of the Buddha. Following your visit, you’ll depart for Sigiriya, an iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sigiriya is famed for the majestic Lion Rock, a towering rock fortress that offers breathtaking panoramic views from the summit. The climb to the top takes you through the Lion’s Gate, and along the way, you’ll marvel at the ancient frescoes that adorn the cave walls. You’ll visit the Buddha Stone Temple, Rankot Stupa, and the King’s Council Hall, all of which offer a glimpse into the grandeur of Sri Lanka’s ancient civilization.
Leave the historical sites behind as you journey to Passikudah Beach, a tropical paradise on Sri Lanka’s east coast. Renowned for its golden bay and clear shallow waters, Passikudah is perfect for relaxing, swimming, and wading far out into the sea. Spend the afternoon soaking up the sun, enjoying the tranquil beach, or engaging in water sports activities that the area is known for.
Today, you’ll travel to Mahaoya, a quaint and picturesque rural village. Mahaoya offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in traditional Sri Lankan village life. The villagers, mostly farmers and fishermen, cultivate crops such as paddy, maize, and cowpeas. You can engage with the locals, participate in traditional agricultural practices, and even ride small fishing boats on the nearby lakes. Wildlife lovers will be thrilled to see elephants in the wild near Borapola Lake, especially during the morning and evening hours. For a truly authentic experience, you’ll stay overnight in a village house, giving you a deeper insight into local culture and hospitality.
Your next stop is the quiet and scenic Oluvil Beach, located in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. This beach is notable for its small harbor and historic lighthouse. Spend an exciting day learning to surf at Sri Lanka’s only Billabong-supported surf school. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced surfer, the surf school offers lessons to suit your skill level. The main surf season on the east coast runs from April to October, but even during the off-season (November to March), beginner classes are available. You’ll have plenty of time to practice catching waves and perfecting your surfing technique.
Today, you’ll venture into the wild at Yala National Park, one of the best places in the world to observe and photograph leopards in their natural habitat. Yala is a stunning blend of scrub jungle, brackish lagoons, and striking rock monoliths, providing the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable safari experience. You can choose between a full-day jeep safari or split the day into morning and afternoon game drives to explore the diverse wildlife that inhabits the park, including elephants, crocodiles, and exotic bird species.
